Upper Demerara U17 bowled out for 19

The Demerara Cricket Board inter-associatio­n under-17 tournament continued yesterday at the La Bonne Intention Cricket Ground where Upper Demerara were bundled out for a paltry 19, eventually losing by 10 wickets to Georgetown.

Under overcast conditions, Georgetown won the toss and inserted the young side who lasted just 13.3 overs at the crease. Georgetown needed only 19 balls to reach 21 without loss.

Extras contribute­d the most to the total with nine, seven of which came in wides as the seamers dominated the Upper Demerara unit.

Wavell Allen was the main destroyer picking up six wickets for nine runs from six overs.

Allen removed Kemmar Seegolam two balls into his first over before removing Roshan Ramnauth and Corey Charles in the same over.

Alex Charles and Andy France were removed by Allen with both dismissed by the first delivery they faced.

Dillon Ramsaroop then got to work on the lower order by bowling skipper, Kelon Phillips for a five-ball duck. He also scattered the stumps of Carlos Clark and Jonathan Hall to end with 3-6.

John Persaud picked up the consolatio­n wicket of Vickram Persaud to end with 13.

The short chase was aced by Jadon Campbell and Ryan Latif who made unbeaten scores of 15 and four respective­ly.

Earlier, Georgetown and West Demerara’s contest ended in a tie. West Demerara were routed for 60 in 32.1 overs with Riyad Latif (3-5), Myheim Khan (23) and Ramsaroop (2-13) leading Georgetown’s bowling. West Demerara captain, Nityanand Mathura top scored with 32 from 86 balls. He was the only batsman to reach double figures after hitting two boundaries.

With 14 extras, Alvin Mohabir made 23 and Jeremiah Hohenkirk made 10 as Georgetown cruised to victory. Sachin Balgobin ended with 3-24 and Mathura returned to pick up 2-7

Today at the same venue, Georgetown will play East Bank in their final match.
