Abiola Jackman, the International Boxing Association (IBA) world-ranked female pugilist, will take on Trinidad and Tobago’s Leeann Boodram on May 21st when the Guyana Boxing Association and the Guyana Boxing Board stages their ProAm boxing card at the National Gymnasium.

Jackman was ranked 27th in the world in the Elite Women 81 Kg and over or heavyweight division in the IBA’s April rankings.

Boodram represented Trinidad at this year’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi losing to Fariza Shaltay.

Jackman last month defeated Barbados’ Kemara Stuart at the Sir Garfield Sobers Stadium where she was adjudged the best female boxer.

No opponent, however, has been identified for Jackman’s sister Alisha.

President of the Guyana Boxing Association Steve Ninvalle, said that this was a busy period for the GBA and its boxers, especially the female boxers who the GBA were trying to give as much exposure as possible.

“We’re trying to make sure that we get as much international competition as possible for the young ladies. Right now we’ve confirmed that Abiola Jackman will be fighting Leeann Boodram from Trinidad and Tobago. She is the Trinidad champion and Abiola will be fighting her. We are negotiating to have another overseas opponent for her sister Alisha, we are right negotiating with Jamaica. Leeann fought in Guyana in February and won against a young lady from St Lucia,” he said.

Neville said that the goal is to

give as much exposure to the two sisters.

“Were trying to expose them as much as possible,” said Ninvalle.

“In March they went to the World Championships in India and in April Alisha went to St Lucia and Abiola to Barbados. This month, we’re having international competition again for them right here in Guyana so it’s a very busy period for boxing and a lot of activity,” he declared.

According to Ninvalle this month is a very busy month for boxing with two male boxers Keevin Allicock and Desmond Amsterdam currently at the World Championships in Uzbekistan while the ProAm card will herald the return of professional boxing following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“From the Guyana Boxing Association level we want to make sure that we have a good product to present to the people on May 21 and we have identified two Colombians to fight our top two professional boxers at the moment in Elton Dharry and Dexter `De Kid Marques,” he said.
