Guyana recaptures WIFBSC short range title

Guyana rifle shooters recaptured the West Indies Full Bore Shooting Championsh­ips Short range title shot over 300, 500 and 600 yards’ ranges as the curtains came down on the regional event at the Crabbs Rifle and Pistol ranges in Antigua and Barbuda yesterday.

It was a total team effort as the Guyanese recorded a grand total of 1119 points and 61 Vs to win the prestigiou­s Short Range match and claim the crown they had relinquish­ed to Jamaica by one point last year.

The local marksmen were vicious on their opponents beating their closest rivals by 20 points.

Spearheadi­ng the charge was the experience­d marksman Peter Persaud who dropped only three points from a possible 150 points and shot the only possible of the day at 500 yards (50.4) to lead his team to victory.

Persaud’s performanc­e earned him the Wogart Trophy which is presented to the shooter with the highest individual score for the team match.

Team Manager Franklin Wilson said it was a complete team effort with coaches Mahendra Persaud, captain Dylan Fields and regional top gun Lennox Braithwait­e all assisting is coaching the team to the championsh­ips.

Fields and Roberto Tewari each dropped five points out of a possible 150 and Braithwait­e dropped 6 to lay a solid foundation for the team.

finished a distant second with 1099.53 followed by Canada 1091.51, Jamaica 1024.41 bettering Barbados on Vs after both teams ended on the same points.

Nelson. Lennox Braithwait­e had earlier this week retained his Individual regional title while US-Based Guyanese Sigmund Douglas copped the ‘O’ Class crown. The presentati­on Dinner was scheduled for last weekend and the team is expected back home later today.
