-

A man has been charged with larceny after breaking into a bond and stealing items valued at over $1 million,

Louis Ramsay appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sherdel IsaacsMarcus on May 17 to answer to the charge that was read to him. The defendant pleaded guilty.

It is alleged that between the 1st and the 13th May, at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, the defendant broke and entered the bond of Katchin Ramlakhan and stole a quantity of electric wires valued $1 million and 50 television brackets valued $100,000.

According to the Police Prosecutor, the accused and Ramlakhan, the virtual complainant (VC), are known to each other. On

Monday, May 1, the VC secured his bond with his goods, including the aforementioned articles inside. On Saturday May 13, at about 10.00 hours, the VC returned to his bond and observed the locks on the door was broken and the reinforced grill work was also broken. He made checks and discovered the articles mentioned in the charge were missing.

A report was made to the police station and an investigation was launched. Acting on information received, the accused was contacted and when told of the allegation, admitted to stealing some of the articles. He was arrested and later charged.

The police prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that some of the articles were found on the accused and that he was in the habit of committing the offence.

As such, bail was refused and Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus remanded the defendant to prison until June 5.
