As part of its ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations, retail home furnishing giant, Courts, has awarded a number lucky customers with prizes at all their branches across the country.

In a release yesterday, Unicomer, the parent company, stated that on Friday, it had highlighted one such winner, Nazeema Khan, a single mother from Soesdyke who as the winner of the home transformation project, received a complete living room make over. The single mother says that she is overjoyed and was brought to tears when told she was a winner. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mariah Michelle and Shawnette Wilson.

This, the release stated, was part of the company’s countrywide anniversary celebrations which included surprise discounts, prizes and in-store specials for customers at all branches across the country. At the Main Street megastore, the celebration was even larger and featured a giant cake along with allday

specials and a prize-giving ceremony held for long serving staff and some of their oldest customers. Four employees, Andrew Drayton, Pamela Humphrey, Karen Andrews, and Roulston McDonald, were selected to

receive long-service awards. Prizes were also presented to their five oldest customers, Pauline Nedd, Rensforde Joseph, Clint Duke, Godfrey Pitt, and Claudette Bowen.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Guyana and SubRegional Director of the Dutch Caribbean, Vincent Gordon in his address, expressed on behalf of the company, heartfelt appreciation for Courts’ most precious asset - the dedicated staff. He acknowledged that these individuals have played a pivotal role in the company’s successes, and their dedication “is woven into the fabric of the business.”

Gordon touched briefly on the history of Courts in Guyana noting that the company began its journey in September 1993 with a modest four branches and approximately 200 staff members. However, today, he noted, it proudly boasts 25 branches across Guyana including Courts, Courts Optical, RadioShack, Ashley, and Lucky Dollar. He told his audience that Courts is not only celebrating its “illustrious past” but also looking ahead with ambitious expansion plans as the company awaits final approvals for a 50,000 square foot megastore on the East Bank of Demerara and has initiated groundbreaking for a logistics park development in Houston, Greater Georgetown. Discussions are underway to open branches in two other key towns by March 2024.

According to the release, Courts has also recommitted itself to its long tradition of corporate social responsibility (CRS) projects and outlined plans for future partnerships. As part of the celebration activities, the company made donations to the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, the Georgetown Mayor and City Councillors, and the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central.

The company pledged to continue its partnerships and to work with institutions to enhance service to Guyana, the release added.
