Three men shot in Independence Boulevard, suspects arrested
The two suspects in the shooting of three men at Lot 252 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, Georgetown, on Thursday night, were apprehended by police after they abandoned a motorcycle when cornered by ranks.
The two suspects were identified as Shane Bourne, 26, of Lot 209 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and Ryan Goodluck, a 29-year-old vendor. The three victims: Sherwin Bobb, an unemployed 18-year-old; Seon Ross, a 41year-old labourer, and Hamilton Dickerson, 37, of Lot 252
Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, Georgetown, are all presently patients of a city hospital nursing injuries sustained in the shooting and their conditions are regarded as stable. The shooting is said to be in retaliation for an incident that occurred earlier this year.
Investigations revealed that the victims had congregated on the avenue when the perpetrators who are known to them came through a cross street riding a motorcycle, CM 6629. They parked the motorcycle about fifty metres from where the victims were and the pillion rider dismounted and headed in the victims’ direction with a handgun in his hand. He was confronted by a relative of the victims who admonished him for brandishing the firearm the way he did and there was an exchange of words between the two, during which the pillion rider threatened to kill everyone who had congregated at that spot on the avenue, as revenge for an old grievance where one of his associates was shot in early 2023.
The pillion rider then pointed the firearm in the victims’ direction and fired multiple shots indiscriminately. He then ran back to the motorcycle, mounted it, and both he and the rider escaped in a westerly direction.
As a result of the shooting, Bobb suffered a single gunshot wound to the left side of his jaw, Ross suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper left thigh, and Dickerson sustained a single gunshot wound to his mouth.
They were all immediately taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by relatives where they were admitted. Their conditions are said to be stable at this time.
Meanwhile, the perpetrators were traced to Vlissengen Road and mobile patrols cordoned off the area, prompting them to abandon the motorcycle and run into the Guyana Chronicle compound where they were both apprehended. The compound was searched but the firearm was not found.
The suspects were then transported to CID Headquarters after which they were taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station along with the motorcycle.
They were placed in custody and the motorcycle was lodged. When investigators visited the scene where the shooting occurred, two suspected .32 spent shells were found.
