GT Beer tapeball tourney bowls off today

The GT Beer East Coast Demerara (ECD) 5/5 tapeball tournament bowls off today, featuring 19 teams competing for the coveted title. Sponsored by Banks DIH

Limited, the competitio­n will determine the champions of East Coast Demerara through an exciting seven-a-side format.

Following a successful tournament in

Essequibo, the focus has shifted to the East Coast, with the Enmore Community Centre ground hosting three match days. The action begins today at 09:30h, with the final group matches on November 19 and the knockout games and final under lights on November 26.

A substantia­l prize pool of over G$400,000 is up for grabs with the champion team securing G$200,000. The runner-up will receive G$100,000, while the third and fourth-placed teams will receive G$40,000 and G$20,000, respective­ly. Trophies accompany all cash prizes, and there are additional individual awards in cash and trophies.

GT Beer Brand Manager, Dwain Bristol, emphasized the bonus of the champion team representi­ng East Coast Demerara in a national playoff against winning teams from other districts. Bristol encouraged a competitiv­e yet spirited atmosphere, urging teams to come out, have fun, and make the tournament memorable.

He revealed that after the Essequibo and East Coast legs, the competitio­n will resume in other areas in January 2024. Banks DIH Limited’s Key Accounts Manager and coordinato­r, Shameer Shahib, outlined the ambitious goal of covering eight catchment areas nationwide, with winning teams meeting in the national playoff. Shahib stressed adherence to competitio­n rules and playing within the spirit of the game while having fun.

Highlighti­ng Banks DIH Limited’s commitment to community developmen­t, Shahib expressed the company’s investment in grassroots activities like Tapeball cricket. The sport has not only seen increased player participat­ion but also a growing viewership at the venues.
