St Pius wins third Courts Pee Wee title

-

History was created yesterday as St. Pius became the first team to win three Courts Optical Pee Wee football competition, defeating first-time finalist Redeemer 3-1 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

It was their third triumph in five final appearances which is also a record for the event.

A first-half blitz by the Middle Road outfit sealed a dynasty.

Octain Moore opened the scoring in the sixth minute, dribbling his marker from the left side of the box before lashing his effort into the lower right corner.

An own goal in the 17th minute increased St. Pius’s lead, following a goalkeeping blunder. The error transpired following a defensive clearance that was initially caught by the goalkeeper, only for the custodian to lose grasp of the ball, which rolled into the back of the net following an attempted throw.

A 3-0 score was then realised in the 25th minute when Moore sealed his brace, smashing his effort into the lower left corner from inside the penalty area. Redeemer would eventually score a consolation goal in the 35th minute via Jayden Kendal, who slotted into the left corner after receiving a pass from David De Costa.

St. Pius walked away

with the championship trophy, team uniforms, medals, and a television, while Redeemer pocketed the runner-up accolade and a television.

In the earlier third-place

playoff, West Ruimveldt downed Potaro 2-0. West Ruimveldt received a television and a trophy, while the loser pocketed a trophy.

On the individual side, Most Valuable Player

(MVP) Aaron Vasconcellos of St. Pius collected an electronic tablet, a cellular phone, and a trophy, while teammate Clive Jacobs pocketed an electronic tablet and

trophy after being adjudged the Best Goalkeeper. Dontay Kowlessar of Enterprise was the highest goal scorer and received an electronic tablet.
