MY OWN

The Chairman

Regional Democratic Council 54 Queenstown

Essequibo Coast.

Dear Sir/ Madam:

Aberdeen Essequibo Coast January 1, 2024.

On behalf of the residents of Aberdeen I would like to make a complaint concerning backyard fires which have affected the residents of our community in three significant ways.

Firstly, the dust and smoke cause damage to our homes and furniture. For the past six weeks, some new villagers of the area have been burning rubbish and other waste material at the back of their homes. The smoke and dust have affected other people in the community. The walls and furniture in many houses are covered with black dust that blow into our homes. Also, the dust soils our beds and give us additional work.

Secondly, the dust has caused serious illnesses, especially to our senior citizens and babies. Since this method of garbage disposal has begun four babies and three senior citizens have been admitted to the hospital with respiratory problems.

Thirdly, the remains from the burnt garbage have caused flooding. Cans, bottles and other materials that are not burnt overflow into the drains and cause flooding during the heavy rainfall. Many domestic animals such as turkeys and chickens drown in the flood waters.

Many of my neighbours have tried to solve the problem but were unsuccessful. They spoke to the offenders, but they ignored them. The police warned them but they continue to burn their rubbish without consideration for others.

The villagers therefore request that you send fire wardens who will fine them for this serious offence. We look forward to your prompt action on this matter. I would be grateful if you can contact me promptly at 226-4651 or email simoneb@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your kind support.
