Let’s Discuss the Purpose of Woods

Certain woods are used for outdoor purposes.

• Wallaba can withstand the weather. Wallaba is used for fencing, paling staves and logs are shaped and shingles are cut for roofing from wallaba.

• Greenheart, another hardwood, can be found in the region. The wood is in great demand in CARICOM countries and even further afield. Wharves and docks when made of greenheart last for a very long time. The portion that remains in the water when attacked by barnacles does not rot easily.

Let’s Explore The Transporta­tion Services in Region Six

The three main forms of transporta­tion can be found in the region.

• Road transporta­tion is by far the most widely used, this is so mainly because the majority of the population resides along the Atlantic coast and the riverbanks.

• There is also a car ferry across the Corentyne River. This connects Guyana to Suriname. Air transporta­tion is necessary to get to interior locations, where it is impossible to gain access by other means.
