Certain woods are used for outdoor purposes.
• Wallaba can withstand the weather. Wallaba is used for fencing, paling staves and logs are shaped and shingles are cut for roofing from wallaba.
• Greenheart, another hardwood, can be found in the region. The wood is in great demand in CARICOM countries and even further afield. Wharves and docks when made of greenheart last for a very long time. The portion that remains in the water when attacked by barnacles does not rot easily.
Let’s Explore The Transportation Services in Region Six
The three main forms of transportation can be found in the region.
• Road transportation is by far the most widely used, this is so mainly because the majority of the population resides along the Atlantic coast and the riverbanks.
• There is also a car ferry across the Corentyne River. This connects Guyana to Suriname. Air transportation is necessary to get to interior locations, where it is impossible to gain access by other means.
