Unstoppable upsets Back Circle, Gold is Money thrash Laing Avenue
Newcomer Unstoppable created the first major upset of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Championship as they defeated Back Circle 1-0 on Friday evening at the National Park tarmac, Thomas Lands.
Anthony Allen slammed his effort into the right corner in the fifth minute to secure the unexpected victory.
Meanwhile, two-time defending champions Gold is Money were in imperious form as they bested Laing Avenue 2-0. Shemar Koulen and Jamal Pedro scored in the seventh and 14th minutes, respectively.
Similarly, Lodge AllStars and Sophia B also got their campaigns off to a perfect start following hard-fought wins. Lodge All-Stars downed the Albouystown Warriors 3-2.
The trio of Carl Higgins, Antonio
MacArthur, and Chai Williams netted in the sixth, 11th, and 15th minutes, respectively. On target in the loss was Timothy Thomas, who recorded a ‘Guinness Goal’ (GG) [a goal scored in the final three minutes of normal time counts as two] in the 18th minute.
Likewise, Sophia B squeaked past Young Gunners 1-0 via an Osric Barrow conversion in the seventh minute. The tournament continues today at the same venue with the final round of group stages.
