Mainstay, Huis T’ Dieren, 8th of May, storm into finals
Mainstay Huis T’ Dieren and 8th of May Primary earned their berths to the final in the Essequibo Zone of the Future Warriors Tape-ball Primary Schools Championship, following respective victories yesterday at the Imam Bacchus Ground at Affiance.
This was disclosed in an official release from the organisers, FL Sports. According to the correspondence, Mainstay defeated Taymouth Manor by 21 runs. Batting first, Mainstay recorded 79-1 in their allotted eight overs. Kurt Allen top-scored with an unbeaten 33 runs.
In response, Taymouth Manor could only muster 58. Jonathan Dipchand topscored with 20 runs.
Meanwhile, Huis T’ Dieren successfully overhauled Aurora’s primary score of 76 in 6.2 overs to secure a comfortable win. Lokeraj Persaud led the chase with an unbeaten 22 runs.
On the other hand, the 8th of May defeated Hampton Court by 12 runs. Batting first, the 8th of May amassed 105 without loss, led by Benjimyah Fordyce’s 37 and Orandi Sealey’s 34. In reply, Hampton Court fell short at 93-5.
Prem Harrypersaud and Zaheer Khan led the pursuit with 30 and 28 runs, respectively. Sealey was the pick of the bowlers with 3-26 in two overs.
The three teams will now return to contest a group stage segment, which will determine the winner today at the same location. The winning team will be presented with several pieces of equipment for tape-ball cricket.
The other teams that participated in the tournament were Charity Primary, Queenstown Primary, Suddie Primary, C.V. Nunes Primary, Good Hope Primary, and Fisher Primary.
