Caimans, Piranhas & Pitbulls chalk up wins

…as GCB T10 Blast continues

Fans over on the West Coast of Demerara were treated to a tripleheader at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground as the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) T10 Blast continued yesterday with the Berbice Caimans, Berbice Piranhas and Demerara Pitbulls all chalking up victories.

In the first of the three games yesterday, the Berbice Caimans grounded the Demerara Hawks to win by 29 runs after opener Alex Algoo assaulted the Hawks bowling to ransack 80 from a mere 27 balls. Algoo’s knock which included 9 sixes and five fours, led the Caimans to 148/3 after they won the toss and elected to bat. He was supported by all-rounder Kevin Sinclair who also opened the batting and struck a cameo 33 (14 balls), blasting four sixes and a solitary four in the process. Kevlon Anderson, skipper of the Caimans made 16 while Steven Sankar (12 not out) got in a couple of lusty blows at the back end of the innings.

In response, despite the best efforts of Rampertab Ramnauth (40), Joshua Persaud (16), Zeynul Ramsammy (12) and Ronaldo Alimohamed (11), the Hawks could only muster 119/6 from their allotted 10 overs, falling 29 runs short.

Sinclair claimed 2-7 (2 overs), while Sylus Tyndall and Sankar along with seamer Bernard Bailey and spinner Devon Lord chipped in with a wicket apiece.

In the second match of the day, the Berbice Piranhas relegated the Essequibo Jaguars to a 50-run defeat after hard-hitting all-rounder Quentin Sampson produced fireworks with 83 not out from just 23 deliveries.

Sampson’s pyrotechnics ensured his side got to 143-5 from their 10 overs after they were sent in to bat by the Jaguars. Sampson spared no one in his 83 which included 11 sixes and three fours.
