Prosecution expected to close case next week in Crum-Ewing murder inquiry

-

The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the charge against Regan Rodrigues, the man accused of murdering political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing, is coming to an end, with the prosecution expected to close its case by the end of next week.

Evidence was presented yesterday by police sergeant Rodwell Sarabo, now stationed at the Brickdam Police Station. There are four witnesses remaining in the matter, which is being prosecuted by attorney Nigel Hughes.

City Magistrate Judy Latchman, who is presiding over the PI, indicated yesterday that Hughes will be expected to close his case on August 5th and that Rodrigues’ attorney should have his submissions ready for that time.

The matter has been adjourned to August 3rd, at 1:30pm and August 5th, at 10:00am.

Rodrigues, called ‘Grey Boy,’ was charged in August last year with the murder of Crum-Ewing, who was gunned down in Diamond, in March, 2015, while urging persons to vote in the then upcoming general elections.

In January of this year, the accused was cleared of a charge which alleged that he was in possession of the gun reportedly linked to the murder, but was sentenced to three years imprisonment for escaping custody. Magistrate Fabayo Azore had said at that time that the prosecution had failed to prove the elements of knowledge and possession of the firearm.
