DCC annual Summer Camp bowls off August 8

- By Clifton Ross

National youth Cricket Coach Garvin Nedd, said the annual Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) summer camp is likely to bowl off from August 8 at the club’s Queenstown ground, weather permitting.

The camp, which has been held for the past five years, is used to prepare aspiring cricketers as well as those who are familiar with the sport over the years. It specifically targets the younger group, namely the Under-13, U15 and U19s.

The two-week long camp has also been a reservoir, helping to churn out huge numbers of players, most of whom go on to represent Guyana at the various levels.

Areas such as the technical aspects of cricket along with the importance of socializing and fundamentals of the game will be the main features of the clinic.

As with previous camps, the players will also be taught to conduct themselves as professionals both on and off the field. A few of the former national players are also expected to be a part of the camp.

Last year, former Guyana and West Indies batsman Travis Dowlin, who is also a former DCC player, was one of the past players to lend their support to the youngsters.

Nedd, who recently returned from a successful Regional Under17 tournament where his side narrowly missed out on the title by .03 points, said that he will be looking towards building another youth side ahead of next year’s tournament and see’s the camp as an avenue towards recruiting and building a team for the future.
