DPP advises murder charge for Tucville businessman over driveway shooting

-

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recommended that the Tucville businessman who shot and killed Colin Perreira and injured his companion on Tuesday evening be charged with murder.

Acting Crime Chief Hugh Jessemy yesterday afternoon told Stabroek News that the businessman, who was arrested shortly after the shooting, will be formally charged on Monday. He is expected to be arraigned in a city court.

Perreira, 25, an excavator operator, was driving his vehicle with his friend, Gailann Chacon, 20, in the passenger seat when he attempted to turn around on a bridge in front of the businessman’s residence at Perry Street, Tucville.

The businessman subsequently drew his licensed handgun and discharged several rounds at the vehicle, hitting Perreira and Chacon about their bodies.

Perreira was pronounced dead on arrival and Chacon was admitted and listed as critical after they were rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Chacon’s father, Dereck Chacon, on Thursday told this newspaper that she is still a patient at the GPH, where she is said to be recovering. Her condition is listed as stable.
