Guyana win volleyball title

-

Guyana won the volleyball title after their male team dominated the Surinamese for two consecutive days in the 2016 Goodwill Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) which ended its three day marathon last evening.

Defending champions, the Guyana boys team, led by Samuel Fraser, were rampant in their pursuit of gold, thumping the Dutch six games to nil in the two matches played Friday and Saturday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Due to the inexperience of the Guyanese females, they on the other hand, suffered a completely opposite fate when they were hammered six games to nil by the Surinamese girls who made up for the failure of their male team.

With both teams down to compete in their final matches yesterday - Guyana having already won the best of three battle – inexplicably there was no play at the Gymnasium on day three.

Stabroek Sports was unable to ascertain the reason for the matches not being played.

On Friday, powerhouse Guyana swept aside their opponents 3-0 after beating them in straight sets; 25-14, 25-17 and 2510. The Guyanese girls were beaten then badly 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 in their first match by the Suriname girls.
