Men charged over two fatal shootings

-

A man was yesterday charged with the murders of Paul Rodney and Gregory Garraway, who were fatally shot in separate attacks in the city between October and November.

Joshua Meredith, age and address not given, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty yesterday morning, when the charges were read to him.

Meredith and another man, Colvin Johnson, 34, of Lot 145 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, were charged with the murder of Rodney, a West Ruimveldt resident.

It was alleged that Meredith and Johnson, on November 21, at Avocado Square, East Ruimveldt, murdered Rodney. They were not allowed to enter a plea to the charge.

Meredith alone faced a separate charge for the murder of Charlestown resident Garraway. It was alleged that Meredith, on October 11, at Georgetown, murdered Garraway in the course or furtherance of a robbery. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

Attorney Leslie Sobers represented Johnson. The lawyer termed the situation his client was in an unfair one, while stating that based on information he has received, there “seems to be a paucity of serious evidence” against his client.

The matter was adjourned to December 22, when the defendants will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Court 1.

Rodney, 31, of Lot 530 West Ruimveldt, was reportedly gunned down on November 21, while returning from a dance in his community. It was previously reported that Rodney had been involved in an argument with the suspects prior to leaving the venue and had attempted to escape, but was pursued and shot. It was said that the assailants made their escape on a CG motorcycle.

Meredith was arrested last Thursday for Rodney’s murder and was subsequently linked to the robbery/murder of Garraway, who was shot and robbed of his gold chain on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, on October 11.
