QC students collect CXC awards
Kayshav Tewari and Larissa Wiltshire of Queen’s College have collected their Caribbean Examinations Council awards for being named Most Outstanding Candidate Overall at the CSEC and Most Outstanding Candidate in Natural Sciences at the CAPE respectively. These awards were presented at the School Examinations Committee meeting on December 1 at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados.
According to a press release from CXC, Wiltshire earned Grade Is in 12 Units: Applied Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Biology Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies, Communications Studies, Chemistry Units 1 and 2, and Environmental Science Units 1 and 2; while Tewari achieved Grade Is in 19 subjects: Additional Mathematics, Agricultural Science (Double Award), Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English A, English B, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Geography, Human and Social Biology, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business, Religious Education, Social Studies and Spanish. Tewari also took the award for the Most Outstanding Candidate in the Sciences, the release said.
The release added that Jackie Benn, Principal of Queen’s College, received the award for CSEC School of the year.
According to the release, Varna Thomas of Ardenne High School in Jamaica received this year’s Dennis Irvine award.
The other CAPE awards went to students of Trinidad and Tobago. Joshua Ramkissoon of Hill View College received the Award for Most Outstanding Performance in Mathematics. Raquel Leblanc of St Joseph’s Convent won the award for Most Outstanding Candidate in Business Studies. Saajida Baksh and Ilisha Manerikar from Naparima Girls’ High School took home the Hodder Education CAPE Humanities Award and the Language Studies award respectively.
For CSEC, the release stated that three students from Jamaica were awarded: Sahara Pinnock of Holy Childhood High School who copped the Business Studies Award, Danielle Williams of Campion College who received the award for the Best Short Story, and Jevauny Simpson of St Georges College who was awarded the Most Outstanding Performer in 2-Dimensional Art in the Visual Arts examination. Convent, Grenada, was presented with the award for Most Outstanding Performance in the Humanities. Glevaughn Smith of Edward P Yorke High School in Belize received the award for Kayshav Tewari
Outstanding Performance in Technical/Vocational Education, and Moesha Tyson of Bishop Anstey High School of Trinidad and Tobago received the award for Best 3-Dimensional Art.
