Berbice cop succumbs two weeks after collision with cows
Corporal #21415 Satesh Narine, who was injured after he collided with cows along the Susannah Public Road, Corentyne just over two weeks ago, succumbed to his injuries yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He unexpectedly passed away around 2.30pm, leaving his colleagues and family in shock.
Commander of ‘B’ Division Errol Watts told Stabroek News that he is in a state of disbelief since he visited Narine in the hospital last week and saw that he was responding to his treatment. “It is very shocking; he was full of life,” said Watts.
He further stressed that Narine was a “committed and dedicated officer to B Division and the Guyana Police Force at large.”
On November 21, Narine, of Cumberland Village, collided with a branded cow and calf, then hit a tree. While his car was totaled, he sustained several broken bones along with other injuries.
Residents of the area rushed to his aid and he was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was treated before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. His condition at that time was listed as critical.
However, relatives told Stabroek News that after he underwent surgery, he began “responding perfectly.”
Narine, who was the officer-in-charge at the Albion Police Station, was also well known at his mandir as a very helpful person. He is survived by his wife and their one child.
Watts extended his sympathies to Narine’s family and friends and to all the officers in the force that he may have interacted with. One of Narine’s fellow officers said, “He will be missed, was a good man that.”
