Western Tigers, Grove Hi-Tech secure 1-0 wins
Doubleheader at Victoria Ground on Sunday
A 90th minute goal from Domini Garnett propelled Grove Hi-Tech to a 1-0 win over defending champion Mile rock when the 2nd Annual Petra Organization/ Lima col Football Championship continued on Wednesday.
Locked at 0-0 at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda, Garnett raced into the penalty area to latch onto a cross, before directing his effort into the back of the net with aplomb.
Due to the result, Grove Hi-Tech climb into the third position on three points in group-A while the holders remain in second place on three points due to their superior goal differential.
Meanwhile, a new look Western Tigers unit team featuring the likes of Devon Millington, Andrew Murray, Ju mane Somerset and Linden Pickets, grounded Eagles 1-0, to climb atop the group-B standings.
Murray was the difference in a fixture which featured few chances, netting in the fourth minute compliments of a header, after latching onto a cross inside the box.
Randolph Wagner almost doubled their advantage in the 56th minute, curling a right foot free-kick from top of the box which was deflected to safety by the diving goalkeeper to his left.
With the win, Western Tigers move onto six points. On the other hand, Eagles remain in the second position on three points.
Action will continue on Sunday at the Victoria Ground with another doubleheader. In the opening fixture at 18:30hrs, Mahaica Determinators tackles Riddim Squad while at 20:30hrs, Ann’s Grove opposes Pouderoyen.
The event is being contested in an initial roundrobin format, with the top two finishers progressing to the quarterfinal round.
