The Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited on Thursday underscored its continued commitment towards the development of youth cricket when the insurance giant contributed $2.5m to the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for the final phase of the National Secondary Schools Cricket League (NSSCL), which is in its second year.

At the ceremony the company’s Executive Marketing Manager, Clarence Perry, handed over a cheque to president of the GCB, Drubahdur in the presence of other GCB executives at the company’s boardroom, Robb Street.

Perry said that the company was proud to be associated with the continued development of cricket in schools.

“As a sponsor, our primary interest is really to see development of youths, and particularly in the field of cricket,” he remarked.

“As you know for every West Indian, cricket is something we cherish, and we see this as an investment towards the overall goal of developing our young talents, and hopefully, these young men can go on to represent us nationally and also internationally, and once again return West Indies to where it used to be,” he added.

President of Guyana Cricket Board, Drubahadur, lauded the efforts of Demerara Mutual and spoke of the significance of the partnership, pointing out that the contribution was another huge step in fulfilling one of the GCB’s mandates, which is to promote and develop cricket at the schools level.

“The GCB is aware that the wider student participation in the sport is vital for the development of cricket, both locally and regionally,” he declared.

He assured the insurance company that the game will be played with the maximum amount of discipline and that the image of the company will not in any way be tarnished.
