Cops get more time with suspects in phone card vendor murder

-

An extension of time has been granted to the ‘B’ Division Police to continue questioning suspects in Wednesday’s murder of phone card vendor Danian Jagdeo and they hope to wrap up investigations soon.

Commander of B Division, Ian Amsterdam, when contacted yesterday confirmed the extension to Stabroek News. He added, “By tomorrow (today) we would wrap up.”

Jagdeo, 36, of Lot 12, Section G, King’s Street, Williamsburg Village, Corentyne, was distributing phone cards

along the Corentyne when he stopped at one of his customers in Adventure and was fatally shot.

Jagdeo was in the shop when a man, who used a hat to hide his face, entered. Jagdeo became suspicious and asked the shopkeeper if she knew the man. She said no and the man then whipped out a gun and fired a shot. According to reports, a scuffle ensued between Jagdeo and the gunman who shot him twice. The bandit then grabbed Jagdeo’s bag and ran outside, where his accomplice, who wore a full-face helmet, was waiting for him on a stolen motorcycle. The two men rode to Friendship, Corentyne, where they left the motorcycle and they were picked up by a silver-coloured car. The men then drove to Springlands, Corentyne but then turned around and proceeded back to Rose Hall Town.

The police currently have six persons in custody, after one of the persons held was released yesterday.

Amsterdam on Thursday told Stabroek News that those in custody hail from Rose Hall Town, Canje and other areas on the Corentyne.

The police have recovered the suspected murder weapon— a .32 snub-nose revolver—at a location where one of the suspects in custody resides, as well as a car believed to have been used by the robbers.

Jagdeo was a father of four.
