Local broadcasters read the news in a deadpan way

Dear Editor,

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) televises an advertisement (I am sure they do it proudly) which says “We don’t just report a story, we live it.” I have noted that some of our broadcasters read the news in a deadpan way and do not change their tone, cadence or countenance when it would be appropriate to do so.

Particularly, when a report of an accident, death or misfortune is made, the broadcaster does not inject some empathy and may even continue throughout the report with an unperturbed countenance and even with a smile. How absurd and insensitive. I think this issue should be immediately corrected by most, maybe all of our media houses.
