GCB/MoE /NSSCL….. Combined Schools selections to be in action from Tuesday

The 2016/2017 Guyana Cricket Board/Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society/ Ministry Of Education/National Secondary Schools League (GCB/DMLAS/MOE/NSSCL) is set to advance to the next stage which will see the amalgamati­on of players from the various schools and districts across the country.

This merging of players, referred to as the Combined Schools, will see the players with outstandin­g performanc­es and those who demonstrat­ed good promise, being earmarked by the selection committee of the National Secondary Schools’ Cricket League for training and district representa­tion.

This aspect of the league is scheduled to commence on Tuesday when the Upper Demerara Combined Team competes with the Highway Combined District from 09:30 hours at the Bayroc ground, Upper Demerara.

The following day will see the Mahaica Combined Team opposing the Mahaicony Combined Team at the Fairfield ground with a select Mahaica-Mahaicony Combined District team named subsequent­ly to play against the East Coast Demerara District Team on Friday at the Fairfield venue.

On Thursday, the merger of players from the Upper Demerara Highway district will battle with the East Bank Demerara Combined Team, after which match, players will be selected to represent the Upper Demerara- East Bank Combined District to play the West Demerara Combined District Schools’ team.

All the matches of the Combined teams will be 50 overs affairs and are scheduled to commence at 09:30 hours on each of the designated playing days. The players of the representa­tive districts will be competing among and against each other for the coveted National Combined District Championsh­ip Trophy.

To date, a number of District teams have been either shortliste­d or selected. These squads are indicated below:

West Bank Demerara: Sewpersad, Aftab Basir, Aaron Hemraj DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Darren Sammy’s Peshawar Zalmi defied cameo knocks from the West Indies pair of Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, to beat Karachi Kings by 24 runs here Friday and storm into Sunday’s final of the Pakistan Super League.

Playing in the second playoff qualifier at the Dubai Internatio­nal Stadium, Zalmi were propelled to 181 for three off their 20 overs by opener Kamran Akmal, who blasted 104 from 65 deliveries.

West Indies right-hander Marlon Samuels chipped in with an unbeaten 37 while South African Dawid Malan got 36. Persaud, Wazim Rahaman, Ryan Seecharan, Parmananda Gomitipars­ad, Denish Persaud, Joel Thomas, Satish Basdeo, Mark Wong, Keith Boyce, Kurt John, Collis Rimple.

In reply, the left-handed Gayle smashed 40 off 31 balls at the top of the order before Pollard arrived to lash a 26ball 47 down the order, but their efforts proved in vain as King could only muster 157 for seven.

Barbados-born England all-rounder Chris Jordan helped cripple the innings with an excellent spell of three for 26 from his four overs while seamer Wahab Riaz (3-24) also claimed three wickets.

Kings lost the usually prolific Babar Azam cheaply for one in the second over, a dismissal which triggered a slide which saw them slump to 35 for four in the ninth over.
