Well, that did not take long. After spending the first quarter of the year on the US racing circuit, star cyclist Raynauth Jeffrey returned to Guyana with a bang, winning the first event in his first start on local soil for the 2017 season.

Jeffrey outfitted in a crisp black and red Team Pharmaco kit, used his trademark time-trial abilities to solo to victory in the sixth annual Baker’s Memorial Cycling Classic which was staged in Linden on Sunday.

The multiple national time-trial winner stopped the clock in two hours, 25 minutes and 31 seconds for the grueling 60-mile fixture which attracted the cream of the nation’s wheelsmen.

Team Alanis’ Alonzo Ambrose placed second while the inform Jamal John who had his two-race winning streak snapped completed the podium.

Andrew Hicks of Team United, Hamza Eastman (Team Coco) and Paul DeNobrega (Digicel Evolution) filled out the top six rewarding positions.

The former Team Coco’s rider will look to continue his winning ways on Sunday when the club stages a 70-mile road race which rolls off on Homestretch Avenue, proceeds to Loo Creek on the Soesdyke Highway and returns to Grove for the finish.
