Linden’s Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ set to kickoff tomorrow

The 2017 edition of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Linden Championsh­ip is slated to commence tomorrow at the Mackenzie Market Tarmac from 19:00hrs.

The event which features 32 teams, will last for seven days. The opening fixture will pit High Rollers against Silvertown All-Stars while Dream Chasers will tackle Speightlan­d at 19:30hrs.

At 20:00hrs, Jermaine and Family Silver Bullets will oppose High Stars while High Life Crew will engage Eagles from 20:30hrs. The fifth fixture at 21:00hrs will pit former champs Amelia Ward Russians against Constab while Main Street Panthers will battle Unknowns from 21:30hrs.

The final two fixtures will pit defending champion Team 25 against South Stars at 22:00hrs and Dave and Celina All-Stars against Ripping Bullets at 22:30hrs.

Winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championsh­ip trophy while the runners-up will collect $150,000 and the correspond­ing accolade. The third and fourth place finishers will walk away with $75,000 and $50,000 apiece and the respective trophy. Other venues scheduled to host matches are Silver City Hardcourt and Amelia’s Ward Hard Court. Mike Conley scored 24 points and added eight assists as Memphis defeated San Antonio to climb back in their first-round Western Conference playoff series. The Spurs, who still lead two games to one, saw their streak of 10 consecutiv­e postseason wins over the Grizzlies end. Conley got most of his help from Zach Randolph (21 points, eight rebounds) and Marc Gasol (21 points, six rebounds and three assists). Khris Middleton scored 20 points, Giannis Antetokoun­mpo added 19, and Milwaukee’s defense shut down DeMar DeRozan in a blowout of Toronto that gave the Bucks a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven first-round Eastern Conference playoff series.

DeRozan missed all eight of his shots and finished with eight points, while the Raptors shot just 33 percent from the floor and went 6-for-22 from beyond the arc. Kyle Lowry and Delon Wright led Toronto with 13 points apiece.
