Williams is Interim President of UDFA

-

Claude Williams, first Vice President of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), will serve as the entity’s Interim President, following a no-confidence motion enacted against incumbent Sharma Solomon yesterday.

The extraordinary meeting, which was held at a building owned by former UDFA boss Dr. Joseph Haynes, was attended by nine affiliated clubs, who voted 8-1 in favour of the motion.

The meeting took place despite Solomon publicly stating that he had tendered his resignation to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).

The former Region #10 Chairman was absent from the forum. The body is expected to host another extraordinary meeting in 14 days.

In attendance were the GFF General Secretary Althea Scipio and another member of the executive committee. Efforts to contact Solomon for a comment proved futile.

However, former executive of the UDFA, Jermaine Figueira, during a comment declared: “The UDFA has been known for many years for producing talents at the national level and it is evident that the community is pregnant with untapped potential and talents waiting to be discovered. I am happy that the clubs, more specifically the players, through their executives, have made a decision to remove elected officials that they are dissatisfied with the level of representation and service they are in receipt of from elected officials”.

According to Figueira: “Their expression of no-confidence against elected official is testimony that they are becoming aware that they hold the power to influence the outcome of the service of elected officials and as such, I encourage the players through the General Council of the UDFA, to hold all elected officials accountable so they can reap the benefits of service from officials who are elected to serve their interests.

“The time has come for the UDFA and more specifically the players, to benefit from the promotion of the sport in the association at all levels,” he added.
