Cop held over bribe in case where dad allegedly killed son

-

A police officer is currently under close arrest, after he allegedly accepted a bribe of $500,000 to provide the family of Azeez Khan with advice on how to cover up his killing and make it appear that he died from a fall.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that as the probe continues, investigators learnt that the police officer advised Khan’s relatives about what to say when making a report about the incident.

As a result, the father, Omar Khan, 40, a security guard, subsequently visited the police station and lodged a report where he stated that his son, Azeez died after he fell from a ladder. However, further investigation were carried out and he was arrested after which he confessed to delivering the fatal blow.

The police yesterday received legal advice to charge Omar Khan with murder and he is likely to appear in court today.

Khan, called ‘Orlando,’ of Lot 8 Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) died on Friday, one day after he was allegedly struck in his head by his father during an argument at their home.

After he was struck, Azeez was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died as a result of haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head.

The police in a press release had said that the father and son had an altercation during which Azeez was allegedly struck to his head with a piece of wood.

While the details of what led to the altercation are not clear, this newspaper was previously told that Azeez and his sister had an argument and their father intervened and struck Azeez in his head with a piece of wood.

Investigations are ongoing.
