Remarkable indicator of low confidence

-

Dear Editor, Welcome – A Fresh Airing Apart from over-extending the relevant constitutional framework, it is a remarkable indicator of ‘low’ confidence displayed by the Cabinet.

Oftimes until now, the question has been raised as to whether there is any effective communication amongst the five legal luminaries sitting there, and how it is that they allow one pre-eminent colleague to ‘out vote’ them four.

It would appear from a recent announcement in the press that there existed a palpable disconnect which too persistently reflected the lack of intellectual capacity in the management leadership of this country’s legal structure.

The appointment of an Advisory Council, albeit of senior judicial citizens, to correct this very perceptible faultline, must speak of the depth of embarrassment felt at the highest level; and must invite much curiosity, and even bemusement, across the Regional Judiciary at this explicit admission of the intellectual vacuum in our jurisdiction which needs to be filled – but at what costs and for how long (since the very ‘Councillors’ may well be outlived?)

On the other hand, some cynics may see this construct as a ‘confidence booster’, while confidentially hoping that it may be a creative way of ‘giving the boot’.

Whichever, it is at least pause for a sigh of relief – but a palliative nevertheless. At least a ‘Fresh Airing’. Yours faithfully, E. B. John
