Three-title winner Wiltshire steals the show as national junior c/ships conclude
-Fernandes, Harding, retain titles
Junior squash sensation Shomari Wiltshire retained his national under-15 and 17 titles while also copping the coveted under-19 title when the curtain came down on the Woodpecker products junior squash championships at the Georgetown Club squash court, yesterday.
Wiltshire, in his final match yesterday defeated Daniel Islam, who earned himself the second place position, 11 – 6, 11 – 8, 11 - 7 to win both the U17 and U19 titles since those categories were played together.
Wiltshire, who also won the under 15 title, was adjudged the most outstanding boy of the championships for his stellar efforts during which he endured 10 games, in three divisions.
The girls under- 19 crown went to Taylor Fernandes who retained her title after brushing aside Sarah Lewis in straight sets on the final day as well.
Meanwhile, Caribbean bronze medalist, Makeda Harding earned herself the most outstanding girl award by copping two titles.
Harding, who like Wilshire competed in three categories, won the girls under 15 and 17 titles. Harding’s final match saw her going past Aliyah Persaud in straight sets, 11-1, 11 – 2, 11- 3 to earn her well-deserved accolades.
Mohryan Baksh and Beau Fernandes walked away with the boys and girls’ under – 11 titles while Demetrius DeAbreu and Kirsten Gomes won the boys and girls’ under – 13 crowns respectively. Prizes were presented to all winners by Robert Fernandes representative of the sponsors Woodpecker Products Ltd.
