Shot in Venezuela, man seeks medical care here

A Venezuelan national is currently hospitaliz­ed at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was injured in a shooting incident in his home country on Saturday.

Stabroek News understand­s that the injured man, Andre Gouveia, 34, was admitted as a patient at the hospital after being transferre­d from a health facility in Port Kaituma, Region 1 (Barima-Waini) where he first sought medical attention.

Police Commander of ‘F’ Division, Ravendrada­t Budhram yesterday confirmed that Gouveia was indeed hospitalis­ed and was transferre­d. He explained that from informatio­n provided by Gouveia to the police he was at a shop in Venezuela close to the Guyana border when a group of men opened fire.

As a result, he sustained three gunshot wounds and ventured into Guyana to seek medical attention. Stabroek News was told that he sustained injuries to his right arm, left hand and right leg.

The commander stated that they are unable to conduct any investigat­ions since the shooting occurred in the neighbouri­ng country.
