U19 Inter-County three-day tournament to start tomorrow

- By Royston Alkins

The ongoing Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/ Hand-in-Hand Under-19 Inter-County three-day tournament has been shifted from today to tomorrow due to persistent rain. The GCB, via a release, yesterday indicated that the venues will remain the same with defending champions Demerara taking on the GCB Select U-17 XI at the Everest Cricket Club ground while Essequibo will play Berbice at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.

Demerara, who won their first round match against Essequibo will look maintain their unbeaten run in a bid to retain their title. Much of that responsibility will rest on the shoulders of skipper Bhaskar Yadram who had an ordinary outing with the bat during the first round while the inform Raymond Perez will look to capitalize on his good form. The bowling department will be led by Richie Looknaught and Kishram Seyhodan who have both been consistent throughout the one-day and first round of the longer version of the tournament.

The Select U17 side, which lost to Berbice in the first round, will be strengthened by the inclusion of opener Alex Algoo, who missed the first round due to the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate CSEC examinations and Sachin Singh who also missed the first round due to other cricket related matters.

They will also be banking on Kevlon Anderson and Junior Sinclair if they are to compete against a strong Demerara side.

Their bowling seems to be holding its own, with Ashmead Nedd and Qumar Torrington capable of toppling their older counterparts. The battle between Essequibo and Berbice will be an interesting one with Essequibo having the opportunity to upstage an unusually undercooked Berbice side. Both matches will bowl off at 10:00 hour in the morning, providing that weather holds.
