Guyana/ Trinidad &Tobago rugby clash gets Banks DIH sponsorship - venue shifted to St Stanislaus College ground
When the national men’s rugby team tackles Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow in their Rugby America’s North (RAN) 15s encounter, Banks DIH Limited will be one of its key players.
It was announced yesterday in the company’s boardroom at Thirst Park that the conglomerate will once again sponsor the fixture which is scheduled to kick off at 16:00hrs under the Banks Beer brand.
Traditionally, the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) hosts visiting teams at the National Park Rugby field, however, due to the recent inclement weather, the game has been shifted to the St Stanislaus College ground across the road on Carifesta Avenue.
According to Troy Peters, Communications Manager of the company, “Once again Banks is behind the ‘Green Machine’ for this weekend’s final against Trinidad and Tobago. As you know we have been a major sponsor of rugby as long as I can remember.”
Peters added, “I know it will be another tough game encounter because Trinidad is a very rough and rugged team but I know our players will be able to withstand any pressure that is there to bear.”
He continued,” We look forward to an exciting match on Saturday and we encourage the fans to come out and support.”
President of the union, Peter Green acknowledged Banks DIH for their continued acts of support, then noted that the victor of tomorrow’s encounter will play the winner of the Northern Zone, which will most likely be Mexico on July 1st in Mexico.
Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago came away with wins against Barbados in their respective season openers. The local outfit defeated the Bajans, 34-26.
Trinidad, however, got the better of Barbados, by a wider margin, winning 3616 in Trinidad, on May 27. Both coach and captain of the local outfit, Shane GrantStuart and Ryan Gonsalves were confident that the ‘Green Machine’ will withstand the ‘Soca Ruggers’ challenge. Tomorrow’s game could be a nail biter.
The visitors are scheduled to arrive at 7:20 am today at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
