The sources related that the GFF is also attempting to initiate an Under 13 national team.

Trinidad and Tobago native Jamaal Shabazz resigned from the post in October 2016 despite having a contract that expired at the end of that year.

His decision occurred after Guyana was dumped out of the CFU Caribbean Cup, losing 2-4 to Jamaica in their final group fixture at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, despite leading 2-0 at the halftime interval.

Among the local candidates, Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover is seen as the frontrunner by many pundits. The current Alpha United tactician also served as the Head-Coach against Martinique.

Dover has previously held the position before and is very experienced having been an understudy to Shabazz in each of his three stints. On the other hand, former national player and GFF Vice-President Ivan Persaud, has declared that he is interested in the post.
