Singh to lead West Indies U16 team to UK

Stylish Guyanese left–handed batsman Sachin Singh will lead a West Indies Under – 16 team to the United Kingdom, in August, a source close to the Guyana Cricket Board has informed Stabroek Sports.

Singh, who represents the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in local competitio­ns, will make his second trip to the U.K to represent the West Indies U16 side in as many years after being part of last year’s squad.

The 15-year-old has so far represente­d Guyana on three separate occasions; twice at the U15 and once at the U17 level and should be in the Guyana squad for this year’s Regional U17 tournament.

He has so far scored two half-centuries for Guyana; one each at the two levels he’s played with both knocks coming against the Windward Islands while his highest score of 78 is his best return.

Singh, who will be familiar with the English conditions, has a highest score of 68 not – out on his last tour with the West Indies youth side.

His leadership abilities, however, will be put to the test on the away tour. Singh, from all reports, is the only Guyanese in the side.

The youngster, who has been steadily improving, has so far scored five centuries in his brief career with his highest score of 120 coming against Berbice U15s in last year’s Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) InterCount­y U15 tournament.

Singh also bowls medium pace which will should assist his side’s outing in seam friendly conditions. she said.

“After being trained and getting coaching I got more educated about it and it has me in a better place at the moment where I know I have improved a while lot.”
