Man in Number 19 accident pleads guilty to driving under the influence -licence suspended for two years

The driver of the bus, which was involved in an accident along the Number 19 Public Road was on Friday read the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and he pleaded guilty.

Kemchand Shivprasha­d, 47, of Grove, East Bank Berbice appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was fined $9, 500 and Magistrate Moore suspended his driver’s licence for two years.

Meanwhile, the court also heard, that in December 2016 Shivprasha­d was charged and fined on the West Coast of Berbice for driving under the influence as well.

After the case was heard in the court, Shivprasha­d was then re-arrested, since four children are still hospitaliz­ed.

skull was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital late on Thursday evening. Her sisters Nesha, 13, and Fazeela, 10, and another relative, Ryan Garib, also 10, have been admitted at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital with broken ankles and other injuries. They are said to be in a stable condition.

Some 14 persons were travelling in minibus BNN 9791 along the Number 19 Public Road Thursday evening heading further up the Corentyne area when it collided with a trailer, which was attached to the back of a truck, around 8 pm.
