Three Peat organisers say they expect competitive tournament

-

Three Peat Promotions, coordinators of the inaugural Guinness ‘Cage Football Championship, yesterday declared that an extremely competitive tournament is expected when the event officially kicks off tomorrow at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

According to a release from the entity, “We expect a very competitive event when action commences on Tuesday at the National Gymnasium because of the format that is being utilized. Despite the rule allowing for the ball to be bounced off the enclosing walls, many of the participating players are every adept at the ‘small goal’ version of the sport.”

The match-day, which is expected to attract many fans, is being christened ‘Super Tuesday’ by the organizers, as each participating team [32 in total] will be in action, in what is expected to be a highly charged atmosphere.

“It is the first time locally that all 32 teams will be facing off on the opening night of an event, which is certainly a treat for the fans,” stated the release.

“It will also give the respective teams the opportunity to scout the other competitors and formulate strategies that can be used during the possible group stage encounters that will follow on Thursday August 31st” the released added.

The initial opening night of the tournament on August 24th was rescheduled for tomorrow due to a lengthy power failure that lasted more than two hours.

Despite the venue being engulfed in darkness, a large crowd gathered in anticipation and in the hope that electricity would return to the facility.

The other playing dates are August 31st, September 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 16th.

The winning team of the historic event will receive $400,000 and the championship trophy with the runners-up pocketing $200,000 and the respective trophy.

The third and fourth placed finishers will walk away with $100,000 and $50,000 correspondingly and the respective accolades.
