Commonweal­th Games Federation Annual Americas Regional Conference begins tomorrow

The Commonweal­th Games Federation Annual Americas Regional Conference begins tomorrow at the Guyana Olympic Associatio­n Headquarte­rs at Block XXX, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara. Twenty countries were expected to attend the event, but following the two recent hurricanes in the Caribbean, the participat­ion of Anguilla and Dominica is in doubt. Representa­tives are expected from the Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Barbados, Canada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and Guyana. The two day conference will begin at 9:00 Hrs. with a workshop. Topics to be discussed include governance, the exploratio­n of relationsh­ips with other sports bodies, and an overview of the Commonweal­th Games Federation through 2022. The official opening of the conference takes places on Sunday at 9:30 Hrs. with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo delivering the feature address. Other speakers include Scotland’s Ms. Louise Martin CBE, President of the Commonweal­th Games Federation, Dr. George Norton, Minister of Social Cohesion with the responsibi­lity for Youth, Culture and Sport, and Ms. Sylvie Fouet, the Permanent UNICEF Representa­tive for Suriname and Guyana. Presentati­ons will be made at Sunday’s session by Ms. Sasha Sutherland of RADA (Regional Anti-Doping Associatio­n), and Ms. Melissa Price and Ms. Crystal Pieris, representa­tives from the Gold Coast, hosts of next year’s Commonweal­th Games in Australia.
