Corona to continue supporting football

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) was officially presented with their championsh­ip trophy and a cheque of $1,000,000 Monday evening by tournament coordinato­rs the Petra Organizati­on for winning the inaugural Corona Invitation­al football tournament.

The presentati­on ceremony was held at the Brandsvill­e Hotel and Troy Mendonca, Co-director of the Petra Organizati­on said: “We (Petra) want to congratula­te all 12 teams and we are pleased at the team turnout. We were very happy with the response of the tournament.”

Gabriella Chapman, Promotions Coordinato­r of event sponsors Top Brandz Distributo­rs said: “You’ve made Top Brandz very proud to be a part of the tournament. Corona is looking forward to continuing to support the football industry in Guyana.” The lawmen secured the title on September 17th following a lopsided 4-0 win over home side Georgetown Football Club (GFC). The Bourda boys for their showing, collected the runners-up trophy and $400,000.

Western Tigers was presented with the third-place package of $200,000 and a trophy after defeating Northern Rangers 2-0. The Kitty-based side collected $100,000 and the respective trophy. The GPF’s Dwain Jacobs was adjudged the Most Valuable Player while teammate Darius Frank copped the Best Goalkeeper Award. Andrew Murray Jr., of Western Tigers, walked away with the Highest Goal-Scorer accolade with 12 goals.
