National teams score lopsided wins as GTT Indoor hockey c/ships commence

Pizza Hut Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), National Black, National Ladies and National Green were all in winners’ row when the GTT National Indoor championsh­ips commenced on Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretc­h Avenue.

Pizza Hut GCC crushed Old Fort 8-1 in the women’s division with Carina Moller bagging a hat-trick in the 16th, 30th, and 36th while Sonia Jardine also scored a hat trick in the ninth, 24th and 39th minute.

Also on target were Tiffany Solomon and Sandy Roopnarine in the fourth and 28th minute respective­ly. Although none of the national teams are eligible for the respective division titles, all three units secured sizable wins.

The National Black team mauled Hikers 12-0 in the men’s division with Hilton Chester netting five times in the first, sixth, 24th, 28th and 38th minute while Robert France tallied a hat-trick in the 13th, 35th and 37th minute and Andrew Stewart scored a brace in the 37th and 40th minute.

Contributi­ng to the rout in the 27th and 39th minute were Kareem McKenzie and Jamarj Assanah respective­ly. Similarly, the National Green team dismissed St Stanislaus 9-1.

Aroydy Branford recorded a helmet-trick in the seventh, 10th, 12th and 31st minute whilst Kevin Spencer bagged a brace in the 13th and 29th minute.

Assisting in the lopsided win were Jason DeSantos, Devin Munroe and Aderemi Simon, who scored in the 15th, 21st and 24th minute respective­ly. Seon Sooklall scored in the 14th minute for the losing team.

The National Ladies team crushed newcomers SIDM 11-0. Kerensa Fernandes led the assault with a hat-trick in the 15th, 26th and 27th minute.

Trisha Woodroffe registered a double in the 11th and 36th, while Marzana Fiedtkou scored twice in the eighth and 38th and Maria Munroe tallied a double in the 12th and 40th minute.

Completing the score line were Aliyah Gordon and Minsodia Culpepper in the ninth and 19th minute respective­ly.

In other results, Bounty GCC and Old Fort battled to a 5-5 draw in the men’s first division while Old Fort crushed Hikers 5-1 in the men’s second division.

Also, GCC Vintage hammered Old Fort 10-5 in the Veteran’s Section. The tournament continues today at the same venue with another round of group fixtures.
