Mars House wins at Mae’s Inter-House swimming competitio­n

Mars House with 462 points won the Mae’s Inter-House swimming competitio­n yesterday in the event held at Colgrain Pool.

Pluto House with 261 points was second, Venus House, 155 points, third and Uranus, 78 points, fourth.

The students competed in a total of 37 races.

Individual races contested for each age category were 25m, 50m, 75m and 100m freestyle, 25m, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m butterfly and 50m and 100m breaststro­ke events. The team events contested were the 4 x 50 Medley Relay for Open boys and girls.

Yesterday the school became the first school to have students compete in an under eight category at the Guyana Teacher’s Union schools swim meet. The youngest competitor­s of the day swam 25m freestyle events with Maciel Forde winning the boys and Arya Murli winning the girls events.

Aside from the official competitio­n, parents and teachers brought some excitement to the pool when they were allowed to showcase their talent to the youngsters in the men and women’s 50m freestyle novelty races.

Outstandin­g performanc­es came from Nikita Peters, Jonathan Van Lange and Moses Persaud.

Peters won the girls under 14 and under 16 50m freestyle, 75m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m and 100m breaststro­ke. Van Lange won the boys under 12 50m and 75m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 100m breaststro­ke. Persaud won boys open 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststro­ke.

Multiple wins also came from Devon Boston (boys under 14 50m and 75m freestyle, 50m backstroke), Elijah Bynoe (boys under 10 25m and 50 freestyle), Paula Kalekyezi(girls under 10 25m and 50m freestyle) and Rylee Rodrigues( girls under 12 50m and 75m freestyle).

Other wins were recorded by Crystal Brown (girls Open 50m backstroke), Zara Crane (girls under 12 50m backstroke), Tahira Stoll (girls Open 100m backstroke) and Darion Perriera (boys under 12 50m backstroke).

The boys Open relay was won by Pluto House while Mars HOuse won the girls Open.
