Main drain still blocked

-

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter, pleading with the government and more precisely the Ministry of Public Infrastructure since I have written four letters in the daily Stabroek News from August to October 2017, and no relief has been given in relation to the situation. The matter has to do with the uncleaned main drain situated on the northern side of the LBI Railway Embankment Road. We have been suffering from regular floods whenever it rains, because of the blocked drain and broken bridges with overgrown vegetation from abandoned premises that hinder the flow of water. I have been advocating that this drain be cleared through the Better Hope/LBI NDC since February, 2017 but to date nothing has been done.

I wish to draw to your attention at this point, the latest response from the Chairman. When I spoke to him on October 3, 2017, I was told that they were instructed by the Public Infrastructure Ministry, that the matter is engaging them and they will carry out the work. I call upon the relevant authority, if this is true to respond to my letter and give clear indication as to how this situation will be resolved, since the NDC seems not to care.

If the Ministry is indeed responsible for having this work done, we the residents are asking that it be done before the next rainy season. Yours faithfully, Ricky Ram

Editor’s note We are sending a copy of this letter to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure for any comment they might wish to make.
