Betsy Ground man gets three years for cultivating 3000 ganja plants
A Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice farmer was recently sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $30,000 when he appeared at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
Balgobin Indar, 23, of Lot 2, Betsy Ground Village, East Canje, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh and was charged with cultivating prohibited plants. The court heard that Indar on Saturday October 7, at Good Banana Land, East Canje, Berbice cultivated three thousand prohibited plants, that is to say, cannabis.
Indar pled guilty to the charge on his second appearance in court, after Police Prosecutor Leon Robertson called his first witness to give evidence.
According to information gathered, ranks acting on information received, around 10.45 pm on October 7, proceeded to Good Banana Land and discovered a wooden camp and two acres of foliage which was suspected to be cannabis plants. While the plants were cut down and destroyed, Indar, who was present in the camp, was placed under arrest.
Meanwhile, Ron Cadogan, 22, of East Canefield, East Canje Berbice was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $102,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
Cadogan was found guilty of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared court on Monday. in
According to information gathered, Cadogan was arrested on Saturday, September 2, at Galaxy Street, Canefield Village, East Canje, Berbice with 167.5 grams of cannabis in his possession.
