Joseph impressed with the young Jaguars Paul and Rutherford

- By Royston Alkins

Guyana Jaguars and West Indies ‘A’ fast bowler Keon Joseph has expressed his satisfaction at the manner in which his junior counterparts Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford are progressing.

Joseph, who is considered the leader of Guyana’s young crop of fast bowlers, was very pleased with the performances of the two young bowlers in Guyana’s recent eight-wicket hammering of the Barbados Pride, in the last round of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional four-day tournament.

The trio, who combined for 18 of the 20 wickets taken by the three-time defending champions, seemed to be hunting as a pack.

Joseph was very aggressive and found a good length with consistent carry to snare a match haul of 7 – 107, while Paul swung the ball prodigiously, finishing with match returns of nine for 122.

Both bowlers were complemented by Rutherford, who collected 2-89 across both innings, while bowling a lot better than his figures suggest. He maintained pressure and unleashed a barrage of short pitched balls during Pride’s second innings, while keeping the visitors in check, as Paul had his own way with the batsmen at the other end.

“Yeah, I’m very impressed with the two guys who came into the side and are putting in the work right away. It’s good to see them putting their best foot forward which is the most important thing,” Joseph remarked in his observations

The 26 year old Joseph who, like Paul, also represented the West Indies at the youth level, added that he’s also sharing his knowledge with the two to assist with their bowling development.

“Basically, when I’m at mid-on or mid-off, I keep reminding them about the most importing thing which is putting the ball in the right areas and not to get carried away, because remember this is four-day cricket we’re playing, and you can’t get wickets from every ball, so you’ve got to keep bowling dot balls, build pressure and wickets will come,” the senior talisman emphasized.
