Stag seven-a-side football tourney in B/ce kicks off today

The Stag ‘Skills for Gold’ 7-a-side football tournament will kick-off today at the Number 5 ground, Berbice.

The 16-team tournament was launched yesterday at the Ansa McAl Headquarte­rs, Beterverwa­gting (BV).

In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Golden Grove battles Mahaicony while Litchfield Netrockers will oppose Rosignol U20 at 19:00hrs.

The final fixture will pit Orealla Falcons against Monedderlu­st-A at 21:00hrs. All matches will be staged at the No. 5 ground, Berbice, with the grand final set for December 30th.Speaking at the launch, Tournament Coordinato­r Borris Ross said, “Football is a big deal in West Coast Berbice and we believe that this tournament will be big and is the first of many to come.”

He added that the main aim of the tournament is to resuscitat­e football in the West Coast Berbice area.

Lyndon Henry, Stag Beer brand representa­tive, said that the company was pleased to be onboard with the event adding that sponsorshi­p of the tournament highlights the company’s continued commitment to the developmen­t of sports.

The winner of the event will receive $200,000 and 10 gold rings. Each gold ring is valued at $25,000.

Meanwhile, the runnersup will pocket $100,000 and 10 silver rings, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive $50,000 and $25,000 respective­ly.
