GFF Extraordinary Congress set for today 2016 audited financial statements to be presented

-

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is set to stage its Extraordinary Congress today from 10:00am at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.

Although several pertinent issues regarding the development of football will be discussed, the core focus of the congress will be on the presentation of the 2016 audited financial statements.

The Extraordinary Congress was required after the GFF Executive Committee failed to submit the audited financial report at the Annual Congress on May 27th, 2017. According to a source close to the federation during an earlier interview, “The primary purpose of the congress is to present the audited statements for 2016 to be approved by the Congress. This is the financial statement that wasn’t presented at the Congress in May and is currently the reason that the GFF’s funding is being hampered.”

It was earlier revealed that FIFA had placed the GFF on ‘conditional funding’ following an audit probe of the eleven-month tenure of the normalization committee, which took office in October 2014. GFF President Wayne Forde, during an earlier interview in the month of September, disclosed that FIFA decided to halt funding to the federation following an audit investigation into the eleven-month period of the Clinton Urling-led Normalization Committee.

The audit was conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC). The GFF boss further revealed that several red flags and anomalies were discovered which forced FIFA to place Guyana on conditional funding, following recommendations from PwC.
