Upper Demerara Football Championsh­ip Botofago demolishes High Stars 4-1

Botafogo crushed High Stars 4-1, while Netrockers and Amelia’s Ward Panthers battled to a 2-2 draw, when the 5th Annual Upper Demerara Football Associatio­n (UDFA)/GT Beer Football Championsh­ip, continued on Sunday.

Staged at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden, Botafogo crushed High Stars 4-1. Jeshawn Moore handed Botafogo the lead compliment­s of an 11th minute conversion.

Beach Football internatio­nal Jamal Haynes quickly doubled their lead, scoring the first of two goals via a 31st minute attempt.

High Stars reduced the deficit in the 47th minute, as Jason Monah made his presence felt.

However, Botafogo restored their two-goal advantage, with Haynes securing his double with a 60th minute strike. Amar Jones then completed the lopsided result with a 80th minute effort.

Meanwhile, Amelia’s Ward Panthers came from behind on two occasions to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw with tournament contender Netrockers.

The Panthers conceded the opening goal in the 36th minute compliment­s of a Denzil Pryce effort.

However, Amelia’s Ward immediatel­y responded via a Matthew Whyte equaliser in the 37th minute.

Netrockers retook the lead in the 52nd minute, as Clarence Higgins etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.

Nonetheles­s, Amelia’s Ward fought back once again, with Omalli Webb fashioning the equaliser in the 83rd minute.

The event will resume at the same venue with another doublehead­er on Friday December 22nd.

Defending champion Silver Shattas will oppose Kwakwani Strikers at 18:30hrs, while Botafogo battles Eagles at 21:00hrs. The complete list of participan­ts are Silver Shattas, Topp XX, Netrockers, Kwakwani, Amelia’s Ward, Botafogo, Blueberry Hill, Eagles and Hi-Stars.

The remaining playing dates are December 22nd, 27th, with a grand final slated for January 1st.
