Banks DIH, Den Amstel FC team up for football tourney

Beverage giant Banks DIH Limited, and West Demerara Football Associatio­n (WDFA) club Den Amstel FC, joined forces to stage the first ever GT Beer Yearend Football Championsh­ip.

The knockout event which will be played for a top prize of $400,000, will feature eight teams battling for a coveted spot in the January 7th finale.

The competing teams are Young Achievers, Eagles United, Golden Warriors, Stewartvil­le, Pouderoyen, Uitvlugt and Wales United. The tournament commences tomorrow with a doublehead­er at the Den Amstel ground.

At 18:30hrs, Achievers will tackle Eagles from 18:30hrs, followed by Den Amstel matching skill with Golden Warriors from 21:00hrs.

The event will continue on December 26th with another doublehead­er. Pouderoyen will face off with Stewartvil­le at 18:30hrs, while Uitvlugt will lock horns with Wales FC from 20:30hrs.

O’Neil Heywood, Coach of the tournament hosts thanked the entity for their support in making the tournament a reality, declaring that the event will provide the platform for the competing teams to showcase their talents.

Meanwhile, Communicat­ions Manager of Banks DIH Limited Troy Peters, said, “We will continue to support football despite the negatives that we see happening around football at this time. As a good corporate citizen we are here to support community initiative­s and this is one for the people of Den Amstel.”

The runner-up in the event will pocket $200,000 and a trophy, while the third and fourth place finisher will walk away with $100,000 and $50,000 respective­ly.
