GWI and GGMC to establish MOU

-

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) will be establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2018.

According to a press release from the GWI, the partnership will see the parties exchanging information and collaborating in different key areas.

This was announced by GWI Managing Director, Dr Richard Van West-Charles in the boardroom at GWI’s Head Office where the company delivered a presentation to the GGMC staff on the reverse circulation drilling methodology, a new method currently being utilised by Dutch company, De Ruiter Groundwatertechneik to drill a new well at Sophia, the release said.

According to the release, Van West-Charles highlighted that one possible area of collaboration would be ensuring that students at educational institutions understand the career pathways which exist for them in their respective fields. According to him, geology and water are areas which will need more competent local personnel to ensure that things are done correctly, the release said.

Manager of Geological services at the GGMC, Gordon Nestor described the collaboration as timely even as he too spoke of the need to archive data for future generations. He said that Guyana has a young population of professionals who lack training in drilling techniques.
